Some people are lucky enough to know exactly what they want to do with their lives at an early age. Such was Jim Lucas who began photographing for his local newspaper at the age of thirteen. By the time he was in college he was proficient in his role as photojournalist. As fate would have it, he was in Mississippi and the time was the 1960's. Lucas became witness to a movement, the Civil Rights Movement, and his photographs capture the drama of that time with his own intuitive sensibility.
